so today we are looking at foundations.
Foundation, the great debate..
Eight foundations in eight days?
I figured I would try it... as a way of working out which of the above foundations are worth keeping as is and which are better off thrown into a jar to be mixed with others. A practice which I have made a habit of as I find it quite hard to match my skin tone. I am a strange mix of rose and yellow.. my face and chest are a rose colour while my neck is a yellow. Hence the odd mix of colours I have reviewed.
Day 1:
L'Oreal Paris New Nude Magique Eau De Teint (190 Rose Beige)
This foundation I found as a clearance item at my local Target store for $10. For the purpose of this review I pulled the foundation out of my make-up box and wore it for a day.
First impressions is that it is a very light liquid formula - imperative that it its shaken before application, otherwise the mixture isn't as smooth. Once shaken it glides on the face effortlessly and instantly feels light weight (can apply using either your fingers or a beauty blender). Lets put it this way it doesn't feel like you have mashed your face in a cake, more light and and natural. It has medium coverage which can be layered and built up to have a fuller coverage. But it does cover a lot of skin colour issues, like uneven skin tone and redness - which I suffer a lot from. It blends into the skin quite easily and also dries relatively quickly if you're in a rush or even so you can then contour over the top or add a powder. It has great even cover. It stays in place on the face for far longer than expected, it still looked fresh a good 8 hours later when I took it off.
Very impressed with this product.
Something I will consider using daily.
Would definitely recommend.
Day 2: Kryolan TV Paint Stick (NB1)
This foundation I bought from a pop up store All About Make Up at High Point a couple of months ago for $45. A large purchase for someone who generally picks up clearance and discount items, but it is worth it and I had my reasons for purchasing.
My Aunts and Mum have been using the TV Stick for years and swear by it. I had previously worn it in yellow shades (ones my mum owned) and found it to be a long lasting full coverage foundation -but it was just the wrong colour. So I went and got the beautician to match my skin tone and.. it came home with me.
The formula is quite thick. It is full coverage - can be applied using a wetter sponge for a thinner application. It is a foundation and concealer all in one. So really, good value for money.
My recommendation with this is that you really need to be prepared to take your time with this foundation. It is best applied with a sea sponge, the wetter the sponge the thinner the layer of foundation you can apply. I did notice that when I used my Chi Chi beauty sponge I did get a flawless application. Also setting with a finishing powder is essential otherwise the product does not set and stays dewy - and not in a nice natural way. It has been a while since I used it and I found I didn't apply enough of the stick to areas such as my nose and chin, but otherwise the areas that I did stayed in place and looked flawless even eight hours later.
Would definitely recommend.
Day 3: Revlon Nearly Naked Liquid Makeup (140 Natural Ochre)
The colour in the product is very strong, but honestly apart from the colour making me look sick and sallow this was quite a long wearing foundation. Application of a contour, blush, concealer and powders was also quite easy. The product did not life or become patchy.
Would recommend for yellow based skin.
Day 4: Mirenesse Air Brush 18hr Wear (21 Vienna)
I have had this foundation for a while, after trying the end of a tube my Aunty had bought my mum ordered one off the Mirenesse website for me for approx. $80. All my aunts and my mum are yellow bases so when they stuff up and buy a foundation suited to a rose I get to try it out.
I love this foundation, the formula is perfect for my skin. The colour is more something I wear in summer as it makes me look a little tanned. But it glides onto the skin - can be built up to fuller coverage. I also find that if I have broken out, throughout the day it works almost to clear them up. Worn multiple days in a row though can make my skin quite dry but it isn't something I wear everyday.. more for special occasions.
It leaves the face looking flawless.
Would definitely recommend.
Day 5: Essence Oil-free Fake-up 12h long lasting (10 Matt beige)
I went through a stage where I thought I had ridiculously oily skin (because of the constant break outs and the flaky make-up, turns out it was dry skin) and this was a cheap foundation within my budget so I figured I would give it a go.
After wearing this for a day out shopping with my mum, I now realise why I tossed it aside and have not looked at it since. It is not the best foundation for my skin type, I need a more hydrating moisture rich foundation. Not a matte foundation. This foundation when first applied is the perfect colour, it is easy to blend and looks fantastic. After a couple of hours though it becomes flaking and moves, giving it a less than perfect look. It certainly doesn't last 12h on my face I really like essence products but this just doesn't work for me.
Would not recommend.
Day 6: Maybelline FITME! Shine free Balance stick foundation (120 Classic Ivory)
I am quite partial to foundation sticks, I normally find the foundation stays on the face longer. This is a repurchase of this foundation that I am reviewing. Unlike the first stick which I went through in under a month as I used and loved it so much, this stick in particular just isn't the same. The foundation becomes flaky on my face - very unattractive for a foundation. It doesn't seem to last as long as the previous stick... maybe I got a dud?
I don't know how to feel about this now.
Undecided if I would recommend.
Day 7: W7 HD Foundation 12 Hour (True beige)
All I needed was a tan and this foundation is perfect! So this bottle may become something I use in Summer. It is cheap - can buy it for $5 at Chemist Warehouse. May have to go and buy a lighter shade. It feels lightweight and glides onto the face and neck. It is also long lasting.
Would definitely recommend.
Day 8: Maybelline SuperStay Flawless Finish Foundation (020 Cameo)
I bought this foundation out of a discount bin at a newly opened discount pharmacy. The first time I tried it, it made my skin look orange. The orange tone is quite strong so I tried it out mixing in a pink cc cream which sort of dulled out the orange. The application process is quite easy, and leaves the face looking quite smooth and flawless. It didn't last as long and smeared off quite easily and didn't blend well after this. Maybe I need to use more setting powder?
Half, Half on the recommendation, give it a try if you can find it cheap.
Day 9:
Maybelline Instant Age Rewind (Classic Ivory)Maybelline Instant Age Rewind (Natural Beige)
All I have to say about these two products is - thankfully I payed very little for both. They are extremely oily and thick - and not in a good way. It makes it hard to blend over the skin or to even apply other products over with. I found I ended up with blotches, patchiness and when blending areas where the product lifted off all together. So it came off not long after I finished my face and I moved on.
Has anyone had success with this product? What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for reading about all these odd foundations I have.Have you had any successful with any I haven't? Got any tips?
I have a new covergirl foundation that I will be testing in the next couple of weeks. Also looking into purchasing a Clinique foundation.
